I find a way to connect toilet paper, Chicago

It comes back to toilet paper once again.

A couple of months ago, my stand-by toilet paper, Marcal, gave me a scare. Initially I started buying Marcal because it was cheap but not too bad. I then found out that in addition, it was a stealth eco-hero, made out of recycled paper. Then one day, I couldn't find it on the shelf. What happened was, someone at Marcal must have realized that in this day and age, the recycled thing is a benefit, not a cheapo detail worth hiding, and they had repackaged themselves to be environmentally friendly.

You can see their new packaging here, as the picture accompanying an article about toilet paper in Time. Marcal doesn't get too big for its britches, calling its humble offering to the gods of ecopathology "small steps."

Yesterday I had to buy toilet paper once again, and I noticed that although Marcal is still cheaper by far than the more earth-raping brands, Chicago's bizarre tax code places toilet paper in the "high tax" category, adding on an additional 10%.

What the hell, Chicago, you dysfunctional piece of crap (no pun intended) city? Doesn't recycled toilet paper deserve a tax break? Chicago already has one of the highest, if not the highest, set of "sin taxes" in the country, but toilet paper? Don't you ever get tired of disappointing me?
